Marathons and Fun Runs in Colorado

Colorado is a popular state for marathon runners due to the mile high elevation and rolling hills that pack a punch in the challenge department. For those who are still itching to do some cross country running or fun run for a good cause, check out the upcoming events for the rest of 2010 in Colorado.

Sept 5 – Breckenridge Crest Mountain Marathon, Breckenridge – on soft-packed dirt roads and some rolling hills

Sept 6 – American Discovery Trail Marathon, Colorado Springs – certified trail course, 1/2 on paved 1/2 on dirt small hills, pizzas for all runners and entourage

Sept 11 – A Cause for Paws Doggie Dash, Boulder – 3K walk or 4K run by the Humane Society of Boulder Valley

Sept 12 – K-9’s Against Cancer, Central Park Stapleton – 5K/1 Mi fun run to benefit Foothills Animal Shelter and Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center

Sept 19 – Mountain Air Marathon, Crested Butte to Gunnison – downhill course, good for beginners

Sept 19 – Boulder marathon, Boulder – certified soft packed dirt roads in rural area with some hills

Oct 3 – Blue Sky Marathon, Fort Collins – single track trails on rolling hills and 3,268 ft elevation gain

Oct 3 – Susan G. Komen Denver Race For The Cure®, Denver Pepsi Center – help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research

Oct 9 – XTERRA Marathon of Trail Races, Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Co Springs – many hills, double loop

Oct 17 – Denver Marathon, Denver – road course flat and in LoDo area, state capital and many Denver city parks

Nov 13 – Rim Rock Marathon, Grand Junction – Voted 2005 Most Scenic Race by Colorado Runner Magazine
