Larimer Square is a historic shopping center in Denver, Colorado named after General William H. Larimer Jr. General Larimer was a prospector from Kansas who built a prospecting camp at the very spot where the shopping center now stands around 1858. He named his camp Denver City in honor of the governor of Kansas Territory, James Denver. Eventually, under the direction of Larimer, Denver City grew to be a decent sized town with over 25 buildings including many types of businesses.
Larimer Square historical district was created in 1971 under the direction of noted preservationists Dana Crawford. This was in recognition of the importance that the area played in the establishment of Denver and because the area has been and still is historic and business center. Today, the shopping center is owned b Jeff Hermanson. Under his direction, the area has grown to include around 100 tenants including 40 retail and restaurant owners.
The center also holds many fun community events. On Mother’s Day, a Mother’s Day celebration will be held at various restaurant’s in the center. Restaurants like Bistro Vendome, Rioja, Cru’s, Tamayo’s, and The Capital Grille will have special menu items to honor mothers in the community.

The popular Denver Chalk Art Festival will be help on June 4th and 5th at Larimer Center. This festival is designed to increase art awareness in the community.
