The MCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, was founded in 1996 and provided the city of Denver with its first contemporary art museum. David Adjaye, at the Museum’s tenth year as a cultural presenter, was commissioned to design a new home near the historic Lower Downtown and Union Station. The Museum in Denver is a forum for contemporary art. This art is intended to inspire and challenge all audiences. It is to help create understanding and dialog about the art of our time.
This Museum is considered to be a museum without a front door, a place for public engagement, a content provider, an activator, and immediate research place of culture in the making. The MCA Denver has five distinct galleries and three spaces for education. There is also one art/lecture hall, and many sites for special projects/commissioned works. In order to allow the Museum to always remain in an active state, the galleries perform in a rotation sequence. This offers visitors something new to see each time they visit the MCA Denver. The Museum will excite visitors and artists alike to enter into creative conversations that will extend beyond the walls.
