The Denver Fencing Center has two full time facilities. One facility is located in Golden and the other is located just minutes away from downtown Denver. Weekly they offer over thirty fencing classes for all abilities and ages, although they recommend that a child be at least eight years old before starting. The reason for choosing this age is that they can get into the clothing by themselves, they are more coordinated with their hands and feet, and can concentrate enough to attend a one-on-one and a half hour class. They also offer a program called Musketeer for children ages 6 to 8 to try out the sport. The club also works with different groups of children that are home schooled to offer fencing classes as their physical education class requirement.
Being a real fencing center, they train fencers in all three of the Olympic fencing weapons. These weapons are the foil, the epee, and the saber. The Denver Fencing Center has grown to be the largest U.S. Fencing Member Club in Colorado in less than five years.
This summer they will be offering fourteen different weeks of summer camps at the Denver Fencing Center. This will be their 7th year in doing so. Some of the camps they will be offering are beginner camps, competitive camps, a theatrical fencing group, US National Preparation camp, and more. During summer camp, they often take one beginner fencer and by the end of the next summer, they will have ranked as a top 20 National Fencer or National Medalist.
In addition to the fencing classes, you can find an equipment and clothing store at the center. In this store you will find everything that a fencer needs. You will find the weapons, foils, epees, and sabers, plus the masks used for each of these different weapons. The store also carries fencing jackets, chest protectors, gloves, shirts, knickers, and so much more. It is a one-stop shop for all your fencing needs.
If you or your child is not sure about continuing fencing lessons after the first class, you can rent the equipment you need before you spend the money on buying the equipment. If you choose to buy the equipment it can cost between $250 and $500, depending on the weapon.
They also offer private lessons, which cost $25 for a 20 minute session. You can also drop in during their open fencing periods for a $10 daily drop in fee. For the child who has had every kind of birthday party, you can give them a fencing birthday party complete with the equipment. For a 2 hour party session, it is $25 per fencer and $20 per fencer for a 1 ½ hour party session.
