The Colorado Society for Public Health Education (COSOPHE) consists of 130 students and professional health educators living in Colorado. Since 1999, this voluntary organization has been part of the national Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). COSOPHE offers various programs and serviced aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills and promoting networking and career development.

COSOPHE is dedicated to excellence in health education by enhancing health education, supporting public health policies and providing leadership to this profession. Its goals include providing programs aimed at increasing knowledge and skills of members; identifying and influencing health issues and policies; promoting the public health profession by enhancing credibility and increasing visibility; disseminating timely information on public health; as well as establishing COSOPHE itself as a top professional health education organization.

One of the 10 organizations taking part in The Public Health Alliance of Colorado, COSOPHE is an innovative partnership aimed at strengthening public health in the state. It has two affiliate organizations, namely the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the Colorado Public Health Association (CPHA).

With the celebration of the National Public Health week, COSOPHE and CEHA are encouraging everyone to take part in its membership and networking event, mingling, mixing and socializing with peers and colleagues. Everyone can bring a colleague or a friend and encourage him or her to become a member and join the fun.

COSOPHE supports its members and public health in its advocacy efforts by reviewing essential public health policy and offering valuable information at the membership, and providing training and information to support members in their personal advocacy efforts. Its advocacy efforts also encourage members to develop relationships with policy makers and legislators.

Every September, COSOPHE presents the Public Health Educator of the Year Award at the Public Health in Colorado Conference. This award recognizes a practicing health educator who has shown exceptional leadership in the public health field and profession.

COSOPHE offers several events with continuing education credits all through the year. SOPHE is an approved provider by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) to offer Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) credits, which are awarded to those who have conformed to the competence standards set by NCHEC.

COSOPHE membership plays an important role in the professional lives of health educators in the state. Joining COSOPHE will entitle you to free or discounted professional development workshops, e-newsletter including job announcements, discounted CHES Category 1 credit opportunities, discounted registration fees for the Public Health in Colorado conference every September and free use of CHES study guide. Regular membership and student membership cost $30 and $15 respectively, while memberships for SOPHE and CPHA members both cost $25 each.
