The Downtown Denver Arts Festival is dedicated to supporting and showcasing artists from Colorado since 1999. The annual premier event is held each Memorial Day weekend at the Denver Pavilions and features over 130 of Colorado’s best artists. The festival is expected to draw a crowd of over 150,000 attendees.
This year’s 13th Anniversary Festival is going to be held from May 27th to May 30th and is free of charge. The times for the Downtown Denver Arts Festival are Friday 4PM-11PM, Saturday 11AM-8PM, Sunday 11AM-5PM, and Monday 11AM-4PM.
The festival began as the Celebrate Colorado Artists Festival and the original vision to promote artists that call Colorado their home is still the vision today. In 2010, the crowd spent over $500,000 with the artists.
The media categories of the Downtown Denver Arts Festival are:
o 2D and 2D Mixed Media
o 3D Mixed Media
At the various booths, you can find many fine arts and craft pieces such as jewelry, glass, sculptures, paintings, and mixed media. The booths will be set up along Glenarm Street from 15th to 17th Streets, which will be closed to all vehicles. Each booth is under a white canopy.
Those that attend the festival like the fact that Downtown Denver Arts Festival is more compact that many of the other sprawling arts festivals. Although the setting is more relaxed so the festival goers enjoy themselves, the festival manages to incorporate the best of both worlds. They do this by offering a large number and variety of works on display. This event is a great opportunity for conversations with the artists for the serious buyers.
In addition to attending the festival, there are also other activities that can give the attendees a break from looking at all the great art for sale. On Saturday there will be a Denver Day of Rock on the Skyline Main Stage at 16th and Arapahoe Street. The Denver Day of Rock will feature 20 bands on a total of four stages from 2:30-9:30 pm and all the performances are free. On Saturday morning at 10AM there will be the Denver Memorial Day Parade at the Civic Center Park.
Since there will be so many downtown activities and closed streets, it is strongly recommended that anyone coming downtown use light-rail or any other public transportation.
The Downtown Denver Arts Festival is a way of connecting the local artists to the community. It is a way for the local artists to let the community know what they have to offer, where their shop is if they have one for future business, and a chance for the community to add art to their homes.
