Denver Volunteers of America Holiday Fashion Show 2010

admin December 13, 2010 0

This year’s Volunteers of America Holiday Fashion Show was held at the EXDO Event Center in Denver. Three of Denver’s trendiest boutiques provided the hot designs that lit up the catwalk; Garbarini, Lawrence Covell, and Mariel.

The Holiday Fashion 2010 was a blend of top notch fashion, great music, and delicious food.

Bop Skizzum was on hand for live music and masters of the ceremonies were Kirk Montgomery and Denise Plant. Saying that they would never look as good as the models, they took a try at walking the catwalk and were making fun of themselves. The audience was laughing out loud. More than 600 guests came to this “crème de la crème” event.

The Volunteers of America Brandon Center

The whole party was to benefit The Volunteers of America Brandon Center. Brandon Center/Theodora House is an emergency shelter for single women as well as homeless women with children. Refugees from domestic violence can come to the center for assistance. The shelter offers individual and group counseling, housing referral assistance, a children’s program, parent education,  GED classes, and assistance in employment skills. Every woman receives case management and together with her case manager, develops a plan on how to rearrange her life. The length of stay is different and is determined by the individual needs of each woman. Key goals for the shelter’s program, however, are for the women to become self-sufficient. Residents can stay up to ninety days at the shelter, which should be enough time for each woman to plan and reach her goals.

Volunteers of America

Volunteers of America runs more than 30 distinct human service programs in order to help homebound seniors, low-income families and children, women and children seeking refuge from domestic violence and homelessness, and more.

You volunteer or donate to a specific program, or ask that your donation be used where there is the greatest need. Make a change to your neighbor’s life!

Other holiday events of Denver Volunteers of America are:

Basket of Joy: a basket filled with fruit and candies by a Denver area school aged kid made Christmas car is handed over to isolated seniors.

Snow Buddies: volunteer snow shovelers help seniors keep their porches, walkways, driveways, and sidewalks snow free and safely maintained.

The Volunteers of America’s Fashion Show for 2010 was a great success and was for a great cause. This event helped raise much needed funds for the many people just around the corner that need our help and support.
