Qwest Communications, Inc. is a large telecommunications company. It was founded in 1996 by Phillip Anschutz. The company is located and based in Denver, Colorado. They provide local services in 14 of the 50 states including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, and Washington. Qwest is currently in partnership with Verizon Wireless and Direct TV to provide television to its customers.  It sells its products and services to small businesses and other types of groups or organizations.

Although this company is highly regarded by most people, it still has some flaws. One of the largest complaints about Qwest was triggered when the phone service company switched the citizens from their long distance only to local telephones and services without their permission.  Because of this, in April 2001 the company paid a $350,000 fine to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection after the state cited the company for slamming practices and deceptive advertising. The company also was forced to have all employees sign a contract stating that all slamming and deceptive advertising was banned and not to be used by Qwest. That was a huge setback for them as it not only destroyed their reputation among other businesses, but also among the customers.

Qwest joined with Century Link on April 22, 2010. CenturyLink Shareholders would hold a 50.5% share of ownership and authority in the merged company. Qwest Shareholders were left with only 49.5%. On April 1 2011, Qwest started doing business as CenturyLink. CenturyLink also paid $11.8 billion dollars of Qwest’s debt.

The company offers services of television, phone, and internet. Of all these services, the internet and television are the most popular. Their phone services have had some problems and complaints over the years from different customers, such as the slamming and deceptive advertising stated before. It will take time for the company to regain its composure and respect among the general public. Until then, what they need to do is keep up the hard work diligently and honestly!
