An explosion occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on Monday, June 7, 2010 near 14th Ave. and Jackson St., near National Jewish Hospital and City Park in Denver.
An Xcel Energy substation exploded twice and emitted a large black plume of smoke. Thousands of people in the nearby Denver neighborhoods, Capitol Hill, City Park and Park Hill, experienced a power outage seconds after the explosion and had to seek refuge at nearby Denver businesses.
The fire was under control by 7:30 pm. Causes for the explosion in Denver are still under investigation.
